Renovations to Piedmont Rural Telephone - Laurens, SC
Project:
Addition and Renovations to
Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc.
Client:
Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc.
Laurens, South Carolina
Scope:
Since completion of the original Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative Commercial Office Building, designed by Design South in 1987, PRTC has experienced significant growth. In need of critical space expansion, PRTC commissioned Design South in early 2000 to explore alternatives to expand the existing 7,700 square foot facility within extremely limited site conditions.
Our expertise of three-dimensional digital modeling enabled us to convey our initial design concepts to the Owner, eliminating the common problem of visualization based on two-dimensional drawings. These renderings were also used as marketing material by the Owner to promote the project and inform the Cooperative’s members of the continued success of PRTC.
The new three-story addition represents 10,700 square feet of additional commercial office space. It is directly connected to the rear of the existing building and includes a new computer operations center, billing and accounting offices, financial department offices, a boardroom, and executive offices. Furthermore, the existing building was renovated upon completion of the addition to provide for new customer relations and sales operations.
The addition and renovations include a new elevator providing accessibility throughout the building, adequate toilet areas, and support facilities for new and existing functions. New site improvements include approximately 24 additional parking spaces with modifications to site conditions to accommodate the new construction.
