Design South was responsible for adding phosphorous removal capabilities at the Rocky River Wastewater Treatment Plant. Extensive laboratory and full scale pilot testing was conducted to determine the best practical method to achieve new NPDES Permit limits for phosphorus. This project includes:
• Construction of a new cast-in-place concrete rapid mix chambers with vertical turbine type mixers driven by variable frequency drives.
• Retrofit of existing final clarifiers into flocculating clarifiers. The speed of the flocculators will be controlled using variable frequency drives.
• Construction of a new Chemical Feed Building with alum, magnesium hydroxide, polymer storage, and feed systems.
• A new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system consisting of field-mounted instruments and control devices, non-proprietary distributed control system utilizing personal computers (PCs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The field-mounted instruments, control devices and PLCs are to communicate back to the PCs using Ethernet and fiber optic cable.
• Construction of site improvements such as overlay paving of existing access roadway, sidewalks and incidental site process piping.
