PROJECT:
Water System Master Plan
Anderson, South Carolina

CLIENT:
City of Anderson

SCOPE:
Design South was retained by the City of Anderson to complete a comprehensive water system master plan. The master planning effort included the evaluation of the existing distribution, storage, pumping, and transmission system which serves the City of Anderson’s 17,000 retail customers. A computer hydraulic model was developed in H2OMAP® and used to perform a deficiency analysis on the City’s existing water systems. The analysis included an evaluation of system storage capacity, water transmission main capacity, pumping capacity, system reliability and distribution system (6-inch and larger) flow capacity. The water system evaluation was based on compliance with SCDHEC requirements and standard water industry engineering practices. As part of this master planning effort, Design South reviewed the City’s existing financial plan and developed a short-term (3 years) and long-term (+7 years) capital improvement plan for the City’s overall water system. A written report outlining all conclusions and recommendations regarding various system improvements to satisfy present and future water needs was developed and formally presented to City Council. Completion of this evaluation resulted in several projects including: two 500,000-gallon elevated storage tanks; 27,000 feet of 12-inch transmission mains; 90,000 feet of distribution lines; and painting and maintenance of five existing elevated storage tanks.
